Revolutionary War soldier Benjamin Gilbert was born in 1755 to Lucy Barns and Daniel Gilbert in Brookfield, Massachusetts. In 1775, Gilbert enlisted as a fifer in the Brookfield company of minutemen, led by his uncle Joseph Gilbert.
